Fall Montessori Young Preschoolers

Hello, Montessori Parents!

It was a FUN semester of WIGGLING and GIGGLING with these happy little learners!  I was not able to get all of our pictures to upload---the ones with them moving around were a big blur!  So here are the ones where they were clear enough to post.

Jingle Bells were a favorite for shaking, tapping, and ringing.  We worked a lot on bringing our jingles to a STOP on cue.  This helps with following directions, following a cue---and the ever important INHIBITORY CONTROL that is a huge focus in the toddler unit.

We also worked on making different sounds with our jingles---shaking, tapping, ringing, and patting the bells make different sounds.  We also worked on making loud and soft sounds with our instruments.

Creative Movement is also a big focus for our little ones.  Here, they are acting like birds to flutter, swoop, float, soar, and glide.  They had so much fun dressing up in our bird costumes.  I wish I could have gotten more ACTION SHOTS, but they are hard to get!

I love that last picture!  :)

It was a grrrrrrreat semester.  Such sweet little learners.  I hope to see you ALL back in February!

Hello, Montessori Parents!

We sure have been busy this fall! Our Fall theme has been WIGGLES and GIGGLES! This unit started with a WATER theme where we learned about glissandos.  Then it hopped into FROGS and TOADS where we learned about high sounds and low sounds, as well as balance and coordination with one leg hops and two legged jumps.  Starting next week, we will gallop into HORSES where we learn about musical counting in 2's and 3's (Trotting and Galloping).  We are very BUSY in Kindermusik!

Here we are in our pretend bathtub singing a song called "Wishy Washy Wee!".   On the word "Wee", we throw up our scarves and let them fall down over our heads!  This is a favorite song.  They love the actions and are even singing with me!  We extended this concept to include the musical word, "glissando", which is a musical slide--going up or going down. We matched the rise and downfall of the scarves with our voices, doing musical glissandos!

We continue in all classes to work on STEADY BEAT, finding the beat in the song and matching the tempo and rhythm.  Here we are shaking eggs.  During the song, we switch how we play (shaking, tapping, tapping low, shaking high, etc.)  The kids are doing such a great job following along!!

FROGS!  We did a lot of fun songs and poems about frogs.  This helped us to learn about high sounds and low sounds, as well as encouraged us to learn to balance in a "frog squat" and JUMP--both one legged and two legged.  The kids enjoyed all of my froggie instruments that made frog sound effects!

We also experimented with other instruments that make sounds by shaking, scraping, or tapping.

Here we are doing some of our balancing.  The one leg balance is very hard!  We played a fun game with bean bags to help us to hold our balancing poses and we did a fun little song called "Down in the Meadow" to encourage lots of different movements.  Here we are balancing, swaying and swinging along to the music!

The kids are doing a great job following directions. With the jingles, we do a follow the leader activitiy to encourage them to shake and tap in different ways.

With our sandblocks, we work on CONTROLLING our instruments to make soft sounds, loud sounds, and even STOPPING our instruments to make NO SOUND!  (You can see us "resting" our instruments by putting them on our shirt fronts).  This is very hard, but the kids are very good listeners and are doing such a good job following directions!

We also had some fun with hula hoops!  Our song is called "Oopsie Daisy!"  It helps us to learn how to move our bodies (and our hoops) high and low--and round and round!

And that's some of what we have been up to at Kindermusik!  Thank you for sharing your little ones with me on Wednesdays!  I just love having them in class!
